Next Generation Virtual Infrastructure for LTA Accelerates Smart Working in Pandemic Times

Overview

Livenza Tagliamento Acque S.p.A. was born from the merger of 3 water cycle management companies. During the calendar year, it delivers water for human consumption for the needs of about 293,500 resident inhabitants and, in addition, during the seasonal period, the above-mentioned users are joined by the tourist presences that affect the seaside resort of Bibione for a number of about 6,000,000 tourist presences/year.

The challenge for LTA was to have a new infrastructure on which to develop digital IT services. Following the various mergers by incorporation, the workforce had grown considerably as had the geographic distribution and the need to operate in Remote mode. Added to this was the COVID-19 emergence that further pushed the accelerator on Smart Working.

The Problem

Imagine that in a few months you find yourself absorbing as many as three companies of equal size. As you can guess, organizational complexity and the need to maintain quality service is only part of the challenge. Especially in the context in which LTA operates: vital to the subsistence of the ecosystem - water. There is no commodity more valuable or important.

LTA needed to equip itself with new IT tools to manage a regional network with several locations and operators located in Mobility. Smart Working was a pressing need.

The challenge

The challenge, as is often the case, is to be able to guarantee IT services in H24 mode and allow users to work even during the most complex migrations. LTA chose Workteam to migrate its virtual infrastructure to an Enterprise architecture that can support current and future IT needs.

The whole was built on Dell/VMware architecture with a full 10Gbit networking ring and a remotely deployed Disaster Recovery system.

Now the RTO is only a few minutes, and users can use new services such as Virtual Desktops in mobility, and secure, high-performance Enterprise Applications.

Solution

"We focused on adopting innovative solutions that could really give an advantage to the Client, not just copy and paste from previous projects. LTA has specific needs related to geographic networking and the need for high-reliability with very fast restart times. So the Dell/VMware architecture was the one that gave us the best guarantee of success."

LTA now has a scalable, resilient, secure, state-of-the-art infrastructure to support its most important business: water to the citizen. The migration took place quickly with minimal disruption. Customers and Users now have access to new Digital Services!
